A comparison of debt and deficit of Private individuals and Congress

A couple discussing their finances:

We just don't have the money to fix our car

We can't afford to fix our windows

We need to fix our driveway but we don't have the money.

We're already in debt!

Then the wife asks:

Honey, I feel sorry for the people down the street. Do you think we can borrow some money to give them.

This is an example of a couple spending more than they make and then wanting to borrow money to donate. It makes no sense whatsoever.

Now I'll compare that with our government:

The USA can't fix all of our roads and bridges without more taxes or borrowing.

The USA gives handouts to people unwilling to help themselves.

The USA gives millions/billions to other countries

Congress continues to give OUR money to other countries while we have a deficit (money spent over money received) of $1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion dollars). With a debt (money borrowed) of $22,000,000,000,000 (twenty two trillion dollars) they still continue to tax and borrow to give money to other countries.

This makes no more sense for our country than it does for the couple.

While I'm on the subject. I don't see the difference in deficit and debt. If you are $22,000,000,000,000 in debt, meaning you owe that much, then shouldn't that also be part of the deficit. Obviously it is a debt you can't pay off with the money you are bringing in so it is also part of the  deficit. It's just another way of covering the truth.
